The New Face of Imperialism

I was introduced to Rudyard Kipling's poem White Man's Burden in my first year human rights class. Like many of the things I learned in that class this poem shocked me. How could anyone claim that imperialist countries like the United States not only had a right to invade other countries but that they had a moral duty to do so. Yellow Bird an Siliman have demonstrated that the idea that whites must go forth and civilize the non-white world is alive and well.
